Employment Tribunal litigation has been rising, partly due to the current recession causing employers to reduce staff numbers with redundancies, say employment law solicitors' groups and recruiting groups.

Do you realize as an example, that a year ago there have been over 150,000 claims lodged with the Employment Tribunal? The greatest proportion, 35%, was for unfair dismissal or claims concerning equal pay. Interestingly, the quantity of claims relating to redundancy was up 43% around the previous years to almost 11,000. This is probably as a result of additional pressure on employers caused by the current recession, say employment law solicitors.
